2.5 starsA Christmas Gift was a quick Christmas read. Holly and Caleb used to be best friends until Caleb changed as they grew up. He became part of the popular boys who are mean to people, especially Holly. She still has a crush on him even though he is not very nice, but that is the way it is.
Holly works in retail and when Caleb asks her to help him pick out a gift for his girlfriend she can't say no. After all he is being nice to her, even if she doesn't trust him to not go back to the jerk he usually is on Monday. His girlfriend sounds terrible, much like he has been acting, so match made in heaven I guess. Only when shopping for her gift the two bond a bit and of course you add in a bit of Christmas magic and viola! They are in love. Yey!
Really the story was just okay. I love Christmas magic, but some of the ideas just bugged me a bit. Like Holly's mom tells her that she feel in love with her dad, but her dad didn't even notice her. So what did she do? Changed the way she looked to get his attention. When Holly questions this, asks isn't that a bad message? That you have to change for a boy? Her mom is just like oh, but I didn't change. Just my appearance a little bit. Even though Holly didn't really buy into her mom's must change for a boy thing after she tried it, it still bugged me a bit.
Overall it was an alright read. Very quick, with a touch of Christmas magic.

(3.5) This was really cute but also really cheesy, but I guess that's to be expected when this is a holiday love story. I felt like this took me on a trip back to high school, just seeing all of the drama unfolding and seeing Holly struggle between wanting to remain herself and wanting to be accepted.
Their was one thing I didn't agree with and I felt was just the worst thing you could ever tell a 16 year old or a person period and that was the advice from Holly's mother to Holly. She told her she should changer her appearance to be more acceptable for a boy. You should never teach a girl that it is okay to change the way you look just for the acceptance a boy or for anyone for that matter. I feel like that's teaching girls not to be comfortable in their own skin or with themselves.
Besides that I think this was a cute but predictably cheesy short story.
I received this book for an honest review.
A Christmas Gift is a heartwarming story portrayed in many small neighborhoods everywhere. Holly loves the Christmas party her road has in the town of Baybury. They have everything from hot chocolate and cookies at Holly's house, to carols being sung, bands play, and fireworks go off.
Caleb, the boy across the street, was her friend growing up, but they grew apart as teens. He needed help picking out a gift and would come by and see her at work.
What will this gift be, besides smile producing for your face and your heart? Guaranteed
Holly and Caleb grew up across the street from each other best friends. Until the day Caleb decided he wanted to be a "wolf" one of the popular bad boys. Holly misses her friend but they haven't spoken in over 90 days when he asks for help finding the perfect gift for his girlfriend. Holly has a crush on him, but she wants to do right maybe even rekindle the friendship by helping him out. Will he see the girl next door that has been right in front of him all the time?
I like Holly she's sweet even helping the guy she's in love with find the perfect gift for her girlfriend who is a girl she doesn't like. I knew right from the start that Caleb would see how wonderful Holly was after following her though her work and to a little store to find the perfect gift. They work well together, plus they were friends long before the "wolf" group was even a option.
I'm a sucker for a sweet clean romance they are one of my favorite kind of reads so I had to read A Christmas Gift. While it's a short story it's a perfect mix of story and romance giving us a heart warming ending. I felt I was able to connect with Holly as I'm sure we've all been in her shoes at one point or another. This is my first book by the author but I enjoyed it, a beautifully written story that captures the heart. Since it's a short story perfect for a quick sweet happy ever after read, and I highly recommend checking it out.
This young-adult Christmas short story reads like a classic. The author has a nice writing voice and style. I liked this clean read. I saw a review citing inappropriate content and some language but I found none of that... It's short and sweet and perfect for the holiday season. In fact, it's a little jewel.
A Christmas Gift by Stella Wilkinson is a short holiday story about a girl who falls for her neighbor. Holly and Caleb were childhood best friends, but during that awkward tween time the two drifted a part. Caleb became a part of the popular crowd and Holly was left behind. Now years later, Caleb needs Holly’s help finding the perfect present for his girlfriend.
Holly is a sweet girl who holds a bit of a grudge. She’s quiet, keeps to herself, and hates the group that her former best friend hangs out with. Caleb seems to be a nice guy, but hangs with a group that the way the author describes them reminds me of the T-Birds from Grease. Also he’s clueless when it comes to Holly.
Holly works at a large department store and Caleb asks for her help in finding his girlfriend the perfect gift. It’s a bit cliché how the story plays out. Girl pinning over guy, guy always liked girl but thought he didn’t have a chance, etc. Overall it’s a sweet PG-romance that plays out exactly as you would expect. If you’re looking for a quick read to cleanse your palate between books, this is it!
