“Keri Knutson's short fiction is like easing onto a bath of warm water, so relaxing and soothing that you close your eyes, and when you open them up you see a 400 year old ghoul staring up at you from between your legs.” Bernard Schaffer, author of Whitechapel The Final Stand of Sherlock Holmes, Superbia, and Guns of Seneca 6.
“Knutson's writing skills are superb.” Lee Allen Howard, author of The Sixth Seed, Night Monsters, and Mama Said.
"Rumors of the ghost story's demise have been greatly exaggerated, as Keri Knutson proves...” William I. Lengeman III, in Tangent Magazine.

I'm amazed there are not more reviews of this collection. I confess I picked this up for free as part of a Halloween promotion and I was very happy I did.Knutson writes what I call 'quiet horror', at least for the most part. The opening story 'Dead Girls' certainly had some spooky moments (finding the muddy hand print was nicely chilling) and probably resonated somewhat for me as I read it while in a lonely country house at night - nothing like a little atmosphere. 'A Certain Doorway' was an excellent read and just the quiet creepy sort of tale I like. But there's a good mix here from peculiar happenings at a high school, to hit men, crumbling houses and crumbling lives, and Christmas elves that do not bring any Christmas cheer.
I'd certainly be interested to read more of this author's work.
A big thank you those horror authors who made their books available as part of the free Halloween promotion at FreeFantasyBooks.com (hope I got the url right), it's a great way to find out about new writers.

Dead Girls and Other Stories eBook Keri Knutson Reviews
Loved this book of short stories. Some are better than others, but they are all awesome! I especially loved Jingle. (Nothing like an evil Christmas elf!)
This book brought the horror and suspense all the way. I highly recommend it!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I loved the fact they were short stories! Gives you an idea of what an author's storytelling is like with different stories, especially if you've never read their work before.
I really enjoyed each of the stories and the abrupt/twisted endings reminded me of reading Goosebump books as a kid )
Kudos to the author! I always enjoy reading short stories, but sometimes they leave you begging for more!
I would have chosen a different title for the book, because this one doesn't do it justice. I like short stories, the kind to be read during a rest break between projects. Keri' s stories fill that need. They are well written for the most part. They have great character development and lead--to my mind--to fairly original, subtle endings. I had to read the ending to "Jingle" twice to be sure what happened.
Like all books that have more than 1 story, this one had some that were better than others. The following stories were notable, but they were not as spooky as I would have hoped.
DEAD GIRLS- A zombie type of story about a man who hears strange noises in his home on a stormy rainy night......" He screamed until his throat was torn away" Loved that last description!
A CERTAIN DOORWAY- What really lives upstairs????
JINGLE, JINGLE- What a scary thought! Imagine having an elf that sits on your head to give you nightmares! I liked that twist to what we perceive elves to be.
